Mid-Atlantic Chapter

Association of Contextual Behavioral Science

WELCOME  to the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (MAC-ACBS).  MAC-ACBS is a non-profit organization whose mission is carry out the goals of ACBS at the local level.  These goals include working with professionals, students and the public to better respond to the problem of human suffering.

MAC is a growing community of people - therapists, researchers, teachers, coaches, nurse practitioners, etc. - who share a common interest in the work that is going on in contextual behavioral sciences including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Relational Frame Theory (RFT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Functional Analytic Therapy (FAP), and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).

Our overriding mission is to foster the development of contextual behavioral practice, science, and community service within the Mid-Atlantic region (i.e., MD, DC, VA, WV, DE, NC and SC).  To that end, we conduct regular clinical trainings, and we've facilitated the development of several peer consultation groups in the region. We're also working to increase member networking and referrals via our member listserv.  Our aim is to build and support a sense of community among MAC and all ACBS members.

Join or Re-Join Us

Starting in 2019, MAC-ACBS began asking our members to pay a small dues for being in the Chapter.  This allows us to be able to continue providing conferences and workshops of quality in a time when presenters and venues are charging increasingly more. As with the main ACBS organization, the dues are values based.  That means joiners will be given choices as to how much to pay for a year's membership in the Chapter, with students being asked to pay less than full clinical members.   The plan is to provide increased communications to our members using both periodic email blasts with announcements of interest as well as occasional invitations to view  newsletters that will provide more information about  timelines as to planned presentations and workshops.   When you go to the Membership Application below to either join or renew, you will see several levels of application: Student, and Member -1 through 3.  The Student level is for all who are still involved in programs to attain their professional credential.  Member 1-3 levels are really set up that way to allow for values-based choice in the dues.  The three levels are not in any way different nor do they involve different privileges or responsibilities.  So chose whichever level and dues amount that reflects your beliefs about MAC and what it can offer you.  Assuming you chose to remain a member next year (the dues are for a one year period beginning May 1), you can chose a different dues level if you wish. When you chose what level to renew with, please also go to your profile and complete all the options listed.  This will allow us to set up a directory that will help members be in contact with one another and, especially for clinicians, allow ease of referrals.   One final note:  You must be a dues-paid member of ACBS to apply to join MAC.
